Why do I need a Startpage account?

Every day, Startpage is subjected to heavy amounts of automated traffic, which can be extremely costly, both financially and in terms of performance.

In order to keep Startpage free and fast, we need to cut down the number of searches that don't originate from human users. As part of that effort, we will be requiring some users to create accounts and be logged in to access Startpage search results.

Will you associate my account with my searches?

No. Nothing about your search privacy will change. We will not record your searches, associate your searches with your account, or record your IP address.
